Which is Better - Mink, Synthetic or Silk Eyelashes?

Not all false lashes are made from the same materials. Typically, most false eyelashes are either made from synthetic fiber, mink, or silk. So, what's the difference between these eyelashes?

The key differences in these types of eyelashes are what material they are made from, the lash shape, the style, color, and how the lashes themselves are tapered.

So, how do you know which lashes are the best?

Mink Lashes

Real mink lashes are usually sourced from the tail of the Chinese or Siberian variety of mink, which is an animal similar to a ferret. Mink lashes are soft, natural, and super-light. Mink lashes may not even be able to be felt when wearing. Unless you have allergies, mink eyelashes are comfortable.

Mink comes directly from an animal, so it is advised to avoid wearing mink lashes if you suffer from allergic reactions to other animal furs such as dog or cat hair, as you may have a reaction to mink eyelashes too.

Although mink lashes have been on the market since the beginning of false lashes, many people prefer to go for vegan false eyelashes and stay away from using animal-based lashes like mink.

Faux Mink Lashes

Faux mink lashes were created to mimic the look of real human lashes. Faux mink lashes are made from a synthetic material called Polybutylene Terephthalate (PBT), which is similar to the material of a toothbrush. All faux mink lashes are made using this synthetic material, so why are these lashes called “faux mink” instead of “synthetic”? It’s because faux mink lashes are much thinner and lighter in weight due to their tapered design. As the fiber of faux mink is synthetic and not real animal hair, faux mink lashes are safe to wear and there is less risk of an allergic reaction or infection.

Silk Lashes

The fibers of silk lashes come from vegan synthetic fibers. Generally, silk lashes are firmer and thicker to the touch. Silk lashes also have a shorter taper than faux mink lashes, so they are more durable and are low maintenance. Time and water will make faux mink lashes lose their curl, but silk lashes are made from a waterproof type of synthetic, so they hold their shape much better. Silk is better for creating an intense eye look because of its strength.

Synthetic Lashes

Traditional synthetic lashes are the most affordable. Generally, synthetic lashes have stubbier ends and tend to look the most artificial. Synthetic lashes are usually heavier than other types of lashes and as a result of this, they can be more uncomfortable to wear.

Overall, we think vegan silk lashes and faux mink lashes are the best options. Both of these lashes can be reused multiple times, they are easier to care for, and they’re cheaper than mink!
